Posting Details    The Global Development Studies Program at UFV invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin in August 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach GDS core courses and will be responsible for developing curriculum and teaching in the following areas: studies of successful development projects, development program planning and management, and development methods. Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience in community-based development practice in one or more regions of the Global South (considered to include marginalized communities within the Global North). Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of, Indigenous peoples’ development, gender, healthcare, sustainable development, crisis and disaster relief, and refugees and migration. Candidates must demonstrate willingness and capability to develop and supervise practicums and other kinds of experiential learning (e.g. study tours). Second language fluency and a regional specialization are definite assets.

As a student-centered institution and program, we are seeking applicants who have successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level and a record of fostering a passion for the development field; who successfully integrate their scholarship and experience into their teaching; and have an ability to teach across traditional disciplinary boundaries.

The successful applicant must be able to incorporate or reflect Indigenous perspectives, as well as a critical lens on development, into their curriculum. We particularly encourage applications from Indigenous scholars or teachers or researchers with experience of racialization, colonization and/or other forms of marginalization.

Demonstrable experience in technology-supported teaching (e.g. hybrid, on-line, experiential, and computer-assisted learning) would be an asset.

Applicants will have a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience, including applied research; demonstrated ability to establish a successful research program; and an ability to incorporate their research into applied learning opportunities for students. A commitment to an ongoing program of professional development is required.

The successful candidates will possess strong intercultural communication, leadership, and administrative skills, and show aptitude for working in team situations. The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives.

The successful applicant will have a demonstrable ability to collaborate/interact effectively with external bodies or agencies.

Qualifications    The successful candidate will have a PhD in Global Development Studies or in a related field (or solid indication of imminent completion), or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with extensive applied experience. Successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.
