The 2024 presidential election cycle highlights the ongoing relevance of patriarchy in our political system and systems of power in general. On the ballot are starkly different visions of women’s reproductive rights, racial injustice, sexual harassment, and workplace pay inequality. Sociologists can help us make sense of how we got here and why it matters for gender equality and women’s voice in politics. Join us on November 1st 2024 for a PSA Lightning talk led by Darby Southgate (Ph.D) from Los Angeles Valley College who addresses the reifying social constructions of gender and Catherine Bolzendahl, (Ph.D) from Oregon State University who addresses the gendered patterns of political participation. The host/ moderator is Jennifer Puentes (Ph.D) from Eastern Oregon University.
